If your house has a natural lawn, we are glad. But if not, don’t despair! No matter how small your terrace, patio or balcony is, you can also enjoy a green area. And all thanks to artificial turf, which is able to compete with natural grass for its increasingly high-quality levels.
But let’s see what is this synthetic grass and what are its main advantages and disadvantages.
Durability and resistance to the passage of time and weather conditions. It can be installed on any surface and is very easy to install, especially on concrete and tile.
Water saving, since it does not need constant watering.
Easy maintenance, since it does not require the use of fertilizers, herbicides, fertilizers…
Its fantastic finish that faithfully reproduces the appearance of natural grass. Did you know that the comfort of walking on it is what users value the most? You can find artificial grass in one color or in a combination of various shades -green, beige, earth- which makes it more realistic.
UV resistant. Many models include this extra, which allows the artificial turf not to fade in the sun’s rays and remain green forever. It is fireproof and anti-allergic. And if you are going to place it near the pool, choose those with anti-chlorine treatment to prolong its good condition for longer.
Prepare the ground: the first we do is to remove weeds and other vegetation from the ground, as well as stones and debris that may exist. Next, add gravel and sand to improve the subsequent drainage and achieve a perfect settling of the carpet. Finally, compact the materials to leave a level and balanced surface.
Laying the artificial turf: before doing so, we will first have to cover the surface with a geotextile blanket, whose function will be to separate, filter, drain and protect the artificial turf. Then, we can spread the carpet, stretching as much as possible to avoid folds or creases. Once laid, the excess parts must be removed.
Gluing: we check that all the artificial turf carpet covers the desired area and if it does not, adjust or trim the edges of walls, sidewalks, planters, trees, swimming pools. Once everything is as you wanted, you will have to proceed to the gluing using polyurethane adhesives specially designed and developed for this type of installation.
Sandblasting: cover the entire surface with silica sand – if the chosen grass does not have it incorporated – to ballast the carpet, raise the fibers and make them stand upright.
